Bet With Kevin
Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kevin Ware of the Louisville Cardinals made a bet about who would return first from their severe injuries first. Bryant had suffered a torn Achilles tendon in April, and Ware had a gruesome leg break in late March in the NCAA tournament. The bet stated that the player who did not return first, must travel to watch the other one play.
Looks like Kobe will be traveling to Louisville sometime soon.
Will Kobe Return?
Although the bet is all fun and games, Kobe’s injury is not. Kobe tore his Achilles last season in a game against the Warriors, and still has yet to return 7 months later. Unfortunately, Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak has recently expressed that he does not believe Kobe will be returning to the court within the next two weeks.
Bryant has been working on his conditioning, but has not yet return
ed to practices with the rest of the team. He will slowly be worked back into practices and the feel of things before returning for an NBA game. Although Kobe cannot give provides his talents to the team on the court directly, he has been used as a great coaching tool for the rest of the players. In his recent seasons on the sidelines with injuries, he has even been referred to as, “Coach Kobe”.
On top of star veteran Kobe being sidelined, Lakers player Steve Nash is also out with a back injury, and is expected to be out for about two weeks. Without these two, the Lakers have not begun the 2013-2014 NBA Season as planned. They are currently in fourth place in the Pacific standings, with a 4-6 record. As a result, the Los Angeles Clippers have stepped up and emerged as LA’s basketball team. They lead the Pacific with 6 wins and 3 losses, and have no intentions of slowing down.
Wednesday evening, the Clippers defeated the mighty Oklahoma City Thunder by 8 points, to further prove their worthiness as a top team. In the past, the Clippers have a
lways been second to the Lakers, especially since they share a stadium. The Staples Center is “home” to both teams, but the Lakers always produced many more fans. With the way things are going so far this season, that might be changing.
In past years, the Lakers always had a significant different in the price of their tickets. A Lakers average price tickets in the past would have been over $150 more than a Clippers tickets. This season, the Lakers still have the higher priced ticket, but only by about $70. Not only have Clippers tickets caught up to Lakers tickets, but while the Lakers used to have the highest priced NBA tickets, they do not anymore. The Lakers now produce the third most expensive NBA tickets, with the Heat and Knicks taking first and second.
